After not being able to actually meet as a group to organise the exhibition, it was a tremendous success over the Bank Holiday Weekend; Friday August 27th to Monday August 30th. This was a special Exhibition for the group as it was the 50th and as has been the practice over the years we had chose a local Good Cause; Cumbria Wildlife Trust supporting the ospreys at Foulshaw Moss just across the Kent estuary.
165 paintings were displayed for sale painted by members of the group.
This year we invited children from Arnside Primary School to be part of our celebration.
Nursery painted Minibeasts. Year 4 in the style of Gustav Klimt and Year 6 using Pointillism. They were judged and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each year were awarded a rosette.

We displayed factual information from detailed records kept of how the group had been organised in the early years. The display boards we use today were made by the late Alan Dent back in 1988!! Of the members pre 2000 only four were still displaying work. Brenda Bainbridge joined back in 1986 making this her 35th exhibition The other three members are Daphne Lester, Denise Heywood and Ray High.
We invited Tim Farron to our exhibition and he is pictured below talking to Brenda.
Earlier this year we sadly had to report the deaths of Marny Shorrock and Sheila Haslem.
Marny joined the art group at the same time as Brenda. Marny will be remembered for her beautiful wild flower paintings. David Bradbury gave the group 5 of Marny's paintings which his mother had treasured to sell for the Good Cause. Four of the paintings had the labels on the back with details of the flowers painted, We offered them for sale with the original priced labels. We made £135 to be added to the collection for our good cause.
Next to Marny's work was a painting by Sheila, a sack of potatoes beautifully painted in watercolour which we were loaned for the exhibition.
